Read to Someone in Action and TAPAS Day 3

Read to Someone is one of the 5 Components of the Daily 5 Literacy Block Framework.  We have been working on sitting EEKK(Elbow, Elbow, Knee, Knee) and checking for understanding while reading with a friend!  I must say my awesome readers are hitting it out of the park when reading to each other during Read to Someone!

 Everyone in Action
We also had our 3rd lesson with Ms. Holly on the art work of Paul Klee!  We turned our watercolor pencil into watercolor paintings by adding water to our pieces and then began our clay tiles that we were sculpting to go along with our watercolor!  We still have one final day left to paint our clay pieces after they have been fired in Ms. Holly's kiln and also write our short rhyming poems!

It has really been a treat watching the students work on their art work during these TAPAS lessons!  They have absolutely loved every minute and I am so thankful for the amazing grant and all the knowledge and experience it has brought my little artists!

After finishing our watercolor pieces we moved on to sculpting our clay tiles using random things and materials from all around the room to make shape imprints on the clay tiles.

I truly can not wait to see the final products all put together!  I also can't wait to share them with you on here!  Keep an eye out!

Day 2 of TAPAS and More Turkeys!

Thursday was our second day with TAPAS Artist Ms. Holly working on pieces of art inspired by Paul Klee!  We started our final watercolor projects.  We were working with watercolor pencils to design compositions using shapes, which happens to fit perfectly in to our Math Standards for this quarter!  This coming Tuesday we will add water to them using paint brushes and then move on to the clay tiles pieces of the project!  The final part of this project will be writing short rhyming poems about their artwork!  My little artists are absolutely having a ball with this!  I have never seen them get so serious about a project before!  They all have worked so hard and I am so excited for them to see their final products!
Please do not disturb, masterpieces are in the making!!!

Part of our Fun Friday this week was making these adorable hand print Turkeys!  I love how they turned out and I hope you enjoy them at home for all of the Thanksgiving season!  I know I sure am thankful for each of my Little Turkeys in my class!!!

Turkey Time

Turkeys are all over our classroom right now!  In math we are working with and learning all about shapes.  So I gave the kids a piece of construction paper with a brown circle on it and they turned them in to the most adorable turkeys I have ever seen!

Then we also made "Wanted" posters for missing/disguised turkeys!  We read an adorable book called "Turkey Trouble" and in the book the Turkey disguises himself so he doesn't turn into Thanksgiving Dinner!  In the end they all end up eating Pizza for Thanksgiving Dinner after he disguises himself as a Pizza Delivery Guy.  On our wanted poster we included our disguised turkeys!  We also talked about what we would offer for Rewards and it it was so cute what each student decided they would offer for a reward!

Our turkeys were dressed in every kind of disguise possible!  The most popular disguises were Fairy Turkeys, Rockstar Turkeys, and Princess Turkeys!
