Virtual Field Trip

We had the coolest experience going on a virtual field trip to a Sea Turtle Hospital in Key West, Florida!
Through Skype, we were able to talk to one of the doctors at the Hospital who helps rehabilitate the hurt turtles and I am so proud of the amazing questions my little turtle experts were asking!
Everyone was all eyes and ears!  It was such a neat experience!
Looking in to one of the holding tanks at a turtle that is going to be released back in to the ocean soon!
The Sea Turtle Hospital's view and docks where the Boat Ambulances bring hurt turtles in to the Hospital for their recovery!  Their view sure looks different than our Mountain views from outside our classroom window!

"Bee" Day at Claxton Elementary

Last Friday we dedicated the day to our new honeybees that now live in our library in their very own honeybee hive observatory!  It was "Bee" Day at Claxton Elementary and we learned all about honeybees and how helpful they are to us and our enviornment!
 My cute little Honeybees!
We learned all about honeybees and what is the best way to take good care of our new Claxton bees!
Getting a close look at our new bee hive observatory.
We also sent our 3rd Grade EOG Buddies a sweet treat so they would have a great "Bee" day, too!
Welcome to your new hive little Honeybees!
To finish the day we got to taste our very own bee's honey and it was delicious!!!

All about fish...

Our new bulletinboard is up and is all about fish!  Right before we went on our last field trip to the fish hatchery we started learning all there is to know about fish!  It is part of our writing standards this quarter to be able to write about facts researched and part of our science standards is being able to tell the differences and similarities of animals.  I think the kids did an amazing job with their all about fish books!
I am very proud!
First we labeled the parts of a fish.
Then wrote down some important facts in a graphic organizer.
And finally, used those facts from the graphic organizer to write two sentences about fish!
This week we are moving on to Sea Turtles and will be taking a virtual field trip of Wednesday to a Sea Turtle Hospital to talk to the scientist all about what they do to help sick or hurt sea turtles get back to the wild in the ocean!  I can't wait to share how this goes with everyone so keep an eye out for updates this week!  I hope everyone has a very happy Monday!

Pisgah Fish Hatchery Field Trip

We had so much fun Friday at the Pisgah Fish Hatchery in Brevard learning about the life cycle of trout and exploring the great outdoors we are so lucky to call home!
A quick morning snack before heading in to the Fish Hatchery to learn all about the life cycle of trout!
Everyone was so excited to get inside to see all the amazing trout swimming up the holding tanks!
 Here Fishy, Fishy!
What a beautiful day for a field trip!
In the great classroom area they have to help us learn all about Trout and their life cycles from the amazing staff and wild life rangers at the Fish Hatchery!
Everyone was all ears and loved learning about how the fish hatchery works!
The 3 major types of trout!
After the classroom portion of our amazing fieldtrip we walked over the river to pretend like we were trout and play a game where we had to find food, protect ourselves, and swim down the river!
Checking out the River and trying to find fish or any other animals swimming down it!
 Playing our Fish Game!
After playing the games we got to go back in to the holding tank area to feed the fish!
 Happy girls feeding the fish!
Everyone truly loved being at the Fish Hatchery!
 Feeding the Fish!
Loving being in the great outdoors!
Watching the fish swim around while feeding them!
What more could a little boy ask for on a Friday afternoon, fish and friends!
 Happy Boys!
As you can see, we had an amazing day!  The weather was perfect, the staff was amazing, and most importantly, everyone had fun!  I hope everyone had a great weekend, and don't forget TOMORROW is picture day!
