Penguins

We have been reading and learning a lot about Penguins over the past week to go along with all the chilly temperatures we've been having!  We read Tacky the Penguin, Tacky and the Emperor, and then a few Non-fiction informational books about penguins.

The kids have really loved reading all about Penguins and I'm excited to show you some of their hard work that they've completed about penguins!

Hope everyone is staying warm!  As of right now the field trip for tomorrow is still on but if there are any changes I will make sure to let you know ASAP!  Thanks so much!

Happy New Year!

We are back!!!  And, have been very busy already in room 1412.  We sent home information about our upcoming fieldtrip in students' folders last week.  We are very excited about our trip to the NC Museum of Natural Science!  We have also been very busy this week with our mid-year assessments!  However, we have still been able to sneak some fun writing activities in with our reading this week!  Monday we read Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner.
This cute story tells what snowmen do at night while we are all asleep!  They do things like drink hot coco, have snowball fights, play baseball, and go sledding!  The kids loved it!  After reading the story we wrote about what we think our snowman would do at night if we built one!  The whole lesson and assignment turned out really cute!

We also completed a cute project this week for our IB unit about maps!  We read Me on the Map by Joan Sweeny which is about a little girl who maps out her whole life starting in her bedroom, then her house, followed by her street, town, state, country, and finally planet.
After reading this cute book we mapped out our own lives and they turned out great, too!!!

I hope everyone has been having  a great week and staying nice and warm in these cold January temperatures!
