Happy Fall!!!

This week we have been talking about the change of seasons and Fall.  We have been reading a booked called Fall is Friends by Suzy Spafford.  In the book two friends are trying to help the leaves fall so it will feel more like Fall.  They try all sorts of ways, including cutting out shapes of leaves and taping them to themselves then falling to show the leaves what to do.  So today, we did just that... we made a necklace of a leaf cut out with the words "Happy Fall" then we pretended like we were helping the leaves fall!  The loved it!  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
The page in the book where the girls are cutting out leaves and tapping them to themselves.
We added a little glitter to our leaves to make them extra special.
He is the whole class with our leaf necklaces on and ready for fall!

The Kissing Hand

Over the past few days we have been reading books about a tiny little raccoon named Chester.  We read the first book on the very first day of school and in it, Chester is scared to leave his Mom to go to school so she kisses him in his palm and he holds it to his cheek whenever he feels sad and its like she's giving him a kiss.

Then we read the next book about Chester called, A Pocket Full of Kisses.  This story is about Chester getting jealous when he gets a new baby brother and his Mom gives his brother a kissing hand too.  So to make Chester feel better, she gave him an extra kissing hand to put in his pocket for whenever he feels like he might need a little more love.  So I cut out hearts and pinned them to the student's pockets so they knew how special they were.  They really loved feeling like they were in the story!

Then today, we finished the series with the final book where Chester stands up to a Bully and asks him to be his friend even though the Bully had been mean to him.  I really enjoyed watching the students learn about all of Chester's adventures!

Meanies

Today the students really loved reading a funny booked called Meanies by Joy Cowley.  (Ask them what The Meanies like to eat, where they live, and how they take a bath!!!!)

They absolutely loved reading it together and tomorrow we are going to make our own Meanies book and include things in it that Meanies would do if they were in our classroom.  I am using this book to help reinforce some of the school rules, so our little Meanies will be breaking rules like not walking on the Bee Line, not raising their hands, etc...  I'll post more pictures of the inside of our class book at a later date, but this afternoon after the students left for the night I worked on the cover and tried to draw our picture to look like the real cover so the kids would feel extra special about our personal class' Meanie book.

We have been having so much fun so far this year!  One of the students' favorite parts of the day is recess.  Here are a few pictures from today's recess.

My Name Is...

This week we have been working really hard with names...how to spell them, what our new friends' names are, and how to recognize them.  Today we read the book Chrysanthemum, which is about a small little mouse that is named after a flower and is having trouble with her classmates making fun of her name.

After reading the book we made cute self portraits along with the students names and what letter their names start with.  I think they look beautiful and they decorate the hall right outside our classroom door!
The before...what I was doing at school until 630 Tuesday night to prepare for Wednesday's lesson

Homework

Hello!  Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!  I just wanted to give a little update and explanation on how homework will be done this year.  Either next week or the the first week in October, depending on when the Kindergarten team decides at our next grade level meeting, we will be sending home Homework notebooks.  The entire Kindergarten will have the exact same homework every night.  The notebooks look like a black and white composition book that we asked for you to send in at the beginning of the year.  These notebooks will be where all of their home work is completed.  At the beginning of every month your child will bring home a calendar with the entire month's homework which will be completed on a different page in their notebooks each night.  Please make sure to date the page so we can keep up with what night the homework is for.  Every FRIDAY the students will bring their notebooks back to class where we will check them and send them back home either that same day or the following Monday!

Snacks

Hi Everyone!  We have started our second week of school and it seems like every single day flies by!  Students are expected to bring their own snacks from home for snack time.  However, if I have anything to give to students who did not bring a snack I usually try to, but I'm not always financially able to purchase them myself.  That being said, if you're ever at Walmart, or the Grocery Store, or Sams Club, it would be awesome if you could pick up one of those big bags of cereal, or bags of pretzels, or gram crackers or anything that students could have for a little snack.  Any type of snack that we could pass out to students who have forgotten their snacks would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you so much for everything you do for our students, it means the world!
Have a great day!
