Happy St. Patrick's Day

We were very busy in our classroom today!  We learned all about St. Patrick's Day and worked hard on St. Patrick's Day literacy and math activities throughout the whole day.
Pots of Gold under the Rainbow
In writing we wrote about what we would wish for if we found a Leprechaun.
In math we sorted, counted, and graphed Lucky Charms.  The kids did awesome with this and really enjoyed working with the cereal and eating it after!
Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!!!

Literacy Centers

Every morning we do literacy centers in our room while I'm pulling reading groups to my reading table for small group guided reading groups.  I wanted to share with y'all some of the activities we do during literacy centers so you can have snapshot of our mornings in room 1412!
We build words using magnetic letters and sounding words out.
We sort words by ending sounds
We also work on ending sounds by using clothes pins to clip on the letter that matches the ending sound of the picture on the card.
We match simple CVC words to pictures.
We use a pocket chart to help sort pictures into nouns and verbs.
We listen to stories being read to us on leap pads, iPads, and the computer.  Www.tumblebooks.com is one of our favorite places to read new books online!
And our last center rotation is the smart board where we practice building words and letter sounds.

Worth more than Gold!

This week in our writing center the students completed the cutest activity called "Worth more than Gold."  They choose someone or something that they think is worth more than gold and wrote about them!  I'm so proud of how well it turned out!
We also took advantage of the beautiful warm weather we had yesterday to read outside during our "Read-to-Self" time!
