Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom...

Happy Sunday, I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend and I can't wait to see everyone's smiling faces bright and early in the morning for another fun-filled week in Room 150!  We just finished working on a fun name activity using the book and song Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom to figure out how many letters each student has in their name. We made these adorable name trees and they really turned out so cute!  I can't wait to send them home tomorrow for you to enjoy with your students and for you to be able to talk about how many letters they have in their names!
Look how adorable these turned out!!!
We have also started talking about community helpers in preparation for our first field trip coming up on Thursday!  Tomorrow we will be learning exactly what a community is and who lives in them and why they are helpful for us!  I am very excited to see what our class comes up with when we start talking about communities tomorrow!

Just another reminder, if you have not turned in your student's permission slip for our field trip on Thursday, please do that ASAP!  We will resend permission slips home tomorrow with students who are still missing theirs, just in case they went missing!  We want everyone to be able to join us on this fun field trip to meet some of Asheville's Community Helpers/Heros!
We have been having a great time meeting and playing with our new friends/classmates!  Recess is definitely one of our most favorite times of the day, I think their smiles say it all!
I love this picture of some of our gang hanging out and cooling off before heading back inside from recess!
Theses little faces make my heart smile!
Also, I will be sending home Beginning of the Year Parent/Teacher Conference Letters and Sign-up sheets tomorrow if you are interested in setting up a conference!  If the times on the sheet do not work with your schedule, I completely understand and can work with you to find a time that we can meet!  I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Show and Tell

Just a reminder, we sent home a letter yesterday about our show and tell coming up on Monday!  Today I sent home the gallon sized plastic bags for your students to place their 3 special things inside to bring to school!  I can't wait to see everyone's show and tell and learn more about each and every one of my amazing students!  I hope everyone is having a great week!

Reminder...Open House

Just a reminder that tomorrow night (Tuesday, Sept. 20th) is our Open House from 5-7.  You will start the night off in the gym to get some information from Mr. Edwards then continue to our classroom where I will give a brief overview of what we will be working on this year in Kindergarten.  After your session in our classroom there will be ice cream and face painting for everyone to enjoy before going home for the night!  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night!

Habit #1 - Be Proactive

Last week we started working on Habit #1 of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids.  The 7 Habits are leadership qualities all students can learn.  Developing these leadership skills will prepare students for the future and to become leaders in their own lives!  After reading the story from the 7 Habits book we also read and compared "The Rainbow Fish" to someone/something living a proactive life.  The Rainbow fish choose to be a good friend by giving his scales away to the other fish and therefore was being proactive in his life.  To go along with this lesson we made these adorable Rainbow Fish of our own!
I love how adorable they all turned out!
Along with our cute little rainbow fish craft we also did a writing activity where we thought about some things we could share with others and I loved how thoughtful everyone was about thinking about something they really loved that they would be willing to share with others!  I am very proud of each and every one of my little Rainbow Fish!
Light savers, playdough, and new toys...all very important to Kindergartners! :)
We have also been singing some alphabet songs to help us practice the sounds of each of the letters!  I am very impressed with how quickly everyone is learning these fun songs!
We are so lucky that we get two different recess times during the day!  One in the morning and one in the afternoon!  Here are a couple of pictures of my sweet new Kinders playing on our new Playgound equipment that we are so lucky and thankful to our PTO for providing for us!
Their cute smiles say it all about how they feel about our new playgrounds!
The swings are a huge hit with everyone!  I am so proud of how well everyone has been doing with sharing turns on the swings!  It's truly something special to watch!
 Happy Faces and Happy Hearts!
 Just hanging around! :)
Feeling like they are on top of the World!
Once again, thank you so much to our amazing PTO for providing all the new equipment on our playgrounds, they are huge hits with our class!

Introducing Miss Jones' 2016-2017 Kindergarten Leaders!!!

We are going to have so much fun this year and I can't wait to share with everyone all that we are learning!  I am so excited about this amazing group of Kindergartners!  I just know we are going to have an amazing year!
During our staggered entry days I read the book "The Crayon Box That Talked" by Shane DeRolf to talk about how we are all different but that it takes all of us to make up our classroom and how each one of us is important to make our picture complete!  The kids did an awesome job making connections to real life situations with this book!  We did an activity where the students colored their own crayon to be a part of our classroom crayon box!  It turned out AWESOME!
Also, I hope everyone loved our special little project we made on their first day!  I also hope they all made it home with their 1st Day Prints at Claxton Elementary!
Last week and the beginning of this week have been so great and fun and I can only hope everyone has enjoyed it as much as I have!  I have a good feeling this is going to be a wonderful year!!!
Here are a few pictures from the first couple of days of school!  I have a special project we are finishing tomorrow before I put up some pictures of the stuff we are working on during our literacy and math times!
Recess is always a favorite time of the day, for everyone!

Working/having fun with our math manipulatives that we will be using this year during our math instruction!
During our Staggered Start days we got to go around and meet all our Specialist Teachers, and it was such a treat to get a preview of how fun this year will be when they visit their Specialist Teachers each day!
More fun with our math manipulatives!
I can't say enough wonderful things about our new group of Kindergarten Leaders!  I feel so lucky to be a part of their academic careers and can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!
