Gingerbread Houses and Candy Canes

We have been in the Holiday Spirit in Room 1412 lately!  Our Gingerbread houses turned out beautiful as well as their Christmas Tree Ornaments!

The kids had so much fun putting their Gingerbread Houses together!  Hopefully they made it home all in one piece!

These are the Christmas Tree Ornaments we just finished up!  They will be coming home Wednesday in their folders!
Since today is "Dress Like a Candy Cane" day we used red and white to make AB patterened candy canes!  They turned out so cute!

Holidays

So far this week we have talked about Christmas and Hanukkah.  Tomorrow we will start to learn about Kwanzaa.  Yesterday we learned what a Menorah is and how many candles they have.  We read the book, "Mrs. Greenberg's Messy Hanukkah" and found out how to make Latkes (Potatoe Pancakes).

Then today we read "Who'll Pull Santa's Sleigh" about when all the Reindeer got sick and Santa had to figure out who would pull his sleigh.
In the book Santa's Elves got very upset when they heard the Reindeer were all sick so we made Elf Applications to work with Santa.
Our IB Planner for the next few weeks is on Maps.  So we mapped the North Pole after we checked out what everything looks like up there on www.northpole.com.  If you get a chance, check it out!  It's a really neat website with a lot of educational Christmas things.

Our Maps turned out great!  We included Santa's House, The Reindeer Barn, Elf School, Elf Village, The Weather Station, and last but not least The Workshop!  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Turkeys

Turkeys have started to take over our daily lessons!  This week we used turkeys to help us with the "at" blend.  We thought of words that have the -at ending and put them on turkey feathers.  They turned out great!

A note from PTA...

The PTA asked us to let everyone know that they have rescheduled The Holiday Shop that they help sponsor from the dates in November to December 4, 5, and 6.  More information and details will be sent home closer to the dates about the Holiday shop!  Thank you!

"Orange" Day and Meeting a Meterologist

Thursday was a very exciting day for our classroom!  Our IB Unit this month is all about weather so Thursday morning we met a Meteorologist who explained how all the things we have been learning about effect our daily activites and exactly what they do to predict what the weather will be like for the day.  He read two books to us, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and "Franklin and The Thunderstorm."

He used a balloon and a needle to explain what happens inside a thunder cloud and why the loud "boom" happens during a thunderstorm!  This was after reading "Franklin and The Thunderstorm" and the kids LOVED it!
Then a few pictures of our class from "Orange" Day!

Firefighters

Today we were so lucky that a couple Fire Fighters from Garner Fire Department came to visit.  They brought a fire truck out to our school for us to look at and we had an amazing time!  Thank you so much Garner Fire Department, we had a blast!
