Hour of Code, Polar Express, and Rocky's Readers

We had a lot going on last week in room 150 before we got out for Winter Break!  We started off with our Hour of Code with Mrs. Eggett, our Digital Lead Teacher, who knows all there is to know about how to code!  I loved watching everyone get their first experience with coding and working so well together to get their teams through the coding maze.  Later in the year we will actually be writing codes that will direct a robot to move through certain paths and positions!
Our Rockstar Digital Lead Teacher, Mrs. Eggett, explaining what coding means and how to use it!
Working our way through a maze by creating codes (paths) to follow!
Everyone did a great job of listening and creating codes to help their teams reach the end of their coding paths!
Friday was packed full of Holidays and Celebrations for us!  In the morning we did a 2 hour rotation where we traveled through each of the Kindergarten Classrooms learning about different cultures and how they celebrate December Holidays!  Thank you to the Center of Diversity from UNCA and the JCC for helping assist us on educating our students about Hanukkah, Diwali, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and Las Posadas!
After lunch we packed our "suitcase" for one more trip before we went home for break!  But this trip was on a special train called,"The Polar Express"!
Thanks so much to Mr. Ackerman for reading "The Polar Express" to us before going back to our classroom to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies while making our Polar Express Trains!
I LOVE how adorable my little Train Conductors are in this cute Polar Express Activity we completed right before leaving for the day!
Also, don't forget that over break we are participating in UNCA's "Rocky's Readers" program!  If students read 5 books and record it on the back of their Rocky's Readers bookmark, they will receive 2 free tickets to a Women's Basketball game at UNCA!  I have attached the bookmarks to their reading logs as well as sent home 5 books with each student so this will be easy to complete!  If everyone in our entire class participates, we get a free "Zaxby's Sponsored Chicken Party!!!  So, please don't forget to read and record it on the back of the Rocky's Readers bookmark attached to your students' reading logs!
This is the back of the bookmark where you will need to record the information from each book read over the break!
And, last but certainly not least I hope everyone have a very Happy and Safe Holiday!  I can't wait to see everyone back at Claxton in January!
