Treasure Hunting

We have been working on our IB planner called Sensational Investigations, in which the central idea is for students to be able to describe objects based on their physical properties and how they are used.  For writing yesterday I decided to tie in our IB planner with the book "Pig Kahuna" written by Jennifer Sattler.
The book is about two brother pigs who hunt for treasures on the beach because they are too scared to go in the water.  On their hunt they find a surfboard and name it Dave.  Dave becomes their bestfriend!  We talked about what different senses we would use if we went on our own treasure hunt.  The kids did great with using their 5 senses to explain ways to hunt for different treasures on the beach.
After talking about how to treasure hunt we talked about what they would hope to find on their hunts.  My little hunters came up with great ideas!  I love seeing their little creative minds working when brainstorming for their writing!
Shells, a Pirate Ship, and gold coins for these three hunters.
A sparkly beach towel, a bright flash light, and a surfboard for these other three hunters!
I hope everyone is having a great week!  Don't forget Thursday is our Field Trip to the Museum of Natural Science!  We are very excited!
