Happy Wednesday, Everyone! We have really been working on writing our names and what letters are in our names this week! We did a neat activity where I wrote their names on black paper with a white crayon and then they put stickers on their names. They turned out so great! We are sending them home today!
Writing their names is a really important skill for our Kindergarteners! If your student is still having trouble, please continue to work with them at home! Also, please work with your students on tying their shoe strings!!! Thank you so much and I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Happy Week Number 2 in Miss Jones' Class
We are on our second week of school and my awesome students make it feel like they're on their second month! They are doing so great and I can't say enough how lucky I feel to be their teacher this year! They have all adapted so well to classroom procedures and rules as well as school procedures and rules! I can already tell it's going to be an amazing year in room 150!
Yesterday we started our first day of Literacy Center Rotations and my little wise owls did outstanding! I am beyond proud of them!!!
The girls were working hard on making an Emergent Reader to one of our favorite books, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear!"
Matching Upper Case and Lower Case letters on our Interactive Whiteboard!
Free Choice in the Library is always one of my Kinderkids' favorite centers!
In writing we have been focusing on making detailed pictures. Our pictures must have at least 5 colors in them and 5 details! I must say, for it only being their second week of school, they are really doing well with this!
Practicing letter formation on the Ipad Mini
Recess Fun!!!
Recess is one of our favorite times of the day! It allows the students to really interact with each other and form those social bonds that are so important for their development!
Making new friends at a new school is one of the neatest parts about being in Kindergarten!
I can hardly believe it's already Wednesday, I hope everyone have a great week!

Just a Reminder...
Don't forget tonight is Claxton's annual Back to School Ice Cream Social from 5:30 - 7:00!!! I hope to see everyone there to enjoy yummy ice cream and fun face painting out on the bottom playgound!
Also, I just wanted to let you know I accidentally made a typo on the Specialist Schedule I sent home on Monday. I was trying to get it finished late Sunday night so I got two of our days a little confused! Our actual schedule is
Monday - Computer Lab
Tuesday - Art
Wednesday - Music
Thursday - Media/Spanish
Friday - PE
It's not a huge change, I just had our Music Day and our Media/Spanish Day switched up! I apologize for the mix-up!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday! See y'all tonight!!!

We are Bucket Fillers
Yesterday we read "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?" by Carol McCloud. The
book explains that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we
keep our good thoughts and good feelings about ourselves. When
our buckets are full,
we are happy; when our buckets are empty, we are sad. You
fill a bucket
when you show love to someone, when you smile, make someone
feel special
or do something kind. That’s being a bucket filler. A bucket
filler
is someone who says or does nice things to other people.
Bucket fillers
are those who help without being asked or give hugs and
compliments.
By filling other people's buckets, we fill our own bucket too!
This is a song that goes along with the book that we read. I found the cute little song on YouTube and the Kids loved it! After reading about being a bucket filler we wrote about how we could be bucket fillers in our classroom. All of my wonderful bucket fillers did awesome on this activity!

Intoducing...Miss Jones' 2014-2015 Kindergarten Class
Miss Jones' 2014-2015 Kindergarteners!
I am so excited about this amazing group of Kindergarteners! I just know we are going to have an amazing year!
Last week when everyone came for a day of staggered entry I did a read aloud with the book "The Crayon Box That Talked" by Shane DeRolf to talk about how we are all different but that it takes all of us to make up our classroom and how each one of us is important to make our picture complete! The kids did an awesome job making connections to real life situations with this book! We did an activity where the students colored their own crayon to be a part of our classroom crayon box! It turned out AWESOME!
Our new classroom bulletin board
Also, keep an eye out for a special little project we made today! I will be sending them home tomorrow (Tuesday) because some of them were still a little wet at the end of the day today!
I hope everyone had as much fun today as I did! I can't wait to see everyone's smiling faces back at school tomorrow! Happy First Day of School!!!Monday, July 28, 2014
Goodbye, Smith Magnet Elementary!!!
I have absolutely loved every single day of teaching Kindergarten at Smith Magnet Elementary over the past 4 and a 1/2 years! I have learned so much and have been so blessed to have some of the most wonderful students a teacher could ever ask for! However, this June I moved to Asheville, NC and had to tell my home at Smith goodbye! I am very excited to announce that I will be teaching Kindergarten at Claxton Elementary School of Arts and Humanities in the Asheville City School System for the 2014-2015 school year!
