Apples, Apples, Apples!

We have had a really great time learning all about apples in preparation for our field trip last week!  I am so proud of my Little Apple Experts!
We started off by learning about and labeling the different parts of an apple.

Then we taste-tested Red, Green, and yellow apples and graphed which color apple was our favorite!
Everyone loved tasting the different colors and then deciding which is their favorite to eat!
 Happy Apple Taste-Testers!
Yummmm!
Looks like Yellow Apples won as the favorite color apple for our class!
We used some of our Apple work for our new Bulletinboard!
Then, we moved on to making our own Applesauce!  Everyone loved watching the process of the apples transforming from chopped up apples to applesauce!
Everyone also loved taste-testing the Applesauce!

After tasting our applesauce, we then did a writing sample where we wrote out the recipe and directions for how to make our applesauce!
I am so proud of how hard everyone worked on this part so they will be able to make their own applesauce at home with their families!
I would say the Applesauce was as hit for our class!
Next, we visited Stepp Orchards in Hendersonville for a Field Trip to pick apples and also learn more about pumpkins and corn!
We had so much fun!
We started off in the barn learning all about the apples and I am so proud of my Apple Experts and how much apple knowledge they were able to give our guide about all we have already learned about apples before going on our field trip!
Then we headed out in to a pumpkin patch to look at the different types of pumpkins that they grow at Stepp Orchards.
We also go to go through a corn maze and learned all about how corn grows!
Then we headed out in to the apple orchards to pick our very own apples!
 Happy Little Apple Pickers!
After picking apples we were able to taste some of Stepp's delicious homemade apple cider!
It was so fresh and sweet!
More fun at Steep after eating our lunch at the picnic tables!
 Happy Girls!
 Tractor ride through the orchards.
Everyone had so much fun that the bus was almost completely silent on the way home after all of my sleepy apple experts hit the hay on the way home!

And finally to finish our Apple unit up, we made Apple Pie!!!
This was definitely one of the students' favorite things to do with apples!
They turned out pretty amazing, I am very proud of my little bakers!
While the pies baked, we worked on writing out the recipe for our apple pies.
So proud of my Awesome Students!
 Smiles all around!
 Two thumbs up!!!
I think these smiles say it all...very happy taste-testers!
Our final product was very yummy and a huge success!  I am so proud of how hard everyone worked throughout our entire Apple Unit, and can't wait to move on to observing and exploring pumpkins this week!
I hope everyone has a great week, I'll be posting about the PTO's Boosterthon Fun Run tomorrow, so keep an eye out for some great pictures from our fun morning last Friday running to raise money for our school!
