We have really been diving in to the 7 Habits of Happy Kids over the past two weeks! We are up to Habit #4, Think Win-Win!
After reading the story out of the 7 Habits book by Sean Covey we listened to "The Berenstain Bears, Showdown at Birder's Wood" to help understand what exactly it means to have a Win-Win mindset!
In the story, Brother and Sister Bear are trying to save a tree that has a Yellow Popping Jay Bird's nest (who are about to become extinct) from Too Tall and his Gang who want to use the tree for their new Clubhouse Fort. The Bears know that the Yellow Popping Jay are close to extinction so the nest with eggs in it is very important to them. However, Too Tall and his Gang really want a clubhouse fort so the tree is also very important to them! In the end, Papa teaches the Bears about the word Compromise and how to be problem solvers by helping them come up with plans for an ULTIMATE TREE FORT! However, in order for the Bears to give Too Tall and his Gang the plans for the ULTIMATE TREE FORT they must agree to build it in a different tree. Therefore, everyone wins and it's a Win-Win situation!
After reviewing and retelling the story, relating it to a Win-Win mindset we designed our own ultimate tree forts and what we would like for them to look like!
Please help encourage your students to keep Win-Win mindsets when at home and to always try to be problem solvers and compromise when they have an issue with friends or family!
The Tree House Forts our students came up with are truly pieces of art! I wish I had a tree house fort that looks like some of the ones our little architects came up with!
I am so proud of my little problem solvers and hope they all continue to have Win-Win Mindsets for the remainder of the year!
Thanks for these great photos of the kids! I would love it if it were a Tree House instead of a Tree Fort ~ I constantly notice that military themes enter into children's lives in subtle (and not so subtle) ways.
