Skytop Apple Orchards

We had an absolute blast on our field trip today to Skytop Apple Orchards!
Here are a few pictures from our fun day in the Apple Orchards!
Heading to Flat Rock on the bus!

  Playing on the Playground

After playing on their huge playgound we headed over to the classroom area to find out all about apples and how they grow!

Then we headed out in to the orchards to pick apples!!!

We were having so much fun in the Apple Orchards, some of us got a little tired!
Checking out the ducks in the animal area!

A little more playing before we had to head back home!
We really had the most fun and the best day, ever today!!!  I am so thankful for my sweet students and all the truly AMAZING parents that joined us on our fun day!  I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Reading Logs and Sight Words

Today will be the first day we start our nightly reading logs and sight words!!!  Every night students will be bringing home a new book for you to read with your students and record on the reading log.  After 10 books, students receive a free pizza pass!!!  Please also make sure to review sight words every night!  These words are so important for students to know and to be able to recognize to build reading fluency!  It is the student's responsibility to change out their book each day, so if they are repeatingly bringing home the same book, please remind them they need to change out their books in the morning when they get to school and then put it back in their folders.  Reading log book baggies can be kept in the plastic folder in the back of student's binders.  Thank you so much for working at home with students on the work we do everyday in our classroom!
Also, don't forget that our field trip is Thursday!!!  We are so excited and I can't wait to share pictures with you from our big day!

Red Apples, Green Apples, and Applesauce

We have been having a great time learning about apples and getting all prepared for our upcoming field trip to Skytop Apple Orchard this Thursday!
We taste-tested red and green apples and then graphed which was our favorite to eat.
I love how engaged they all were during this lesson.  They were really excited to see which color apple they thought tasted best!
And the winner for favorite color apple to eat is...RED!
After having so much fun with apples throughout the week, we topped it all off with our Fun Friday Activity of making homemade Apple Sauce!  We wrote down the ingredients and steps of how to make applesauce and then taste tested it!  My little apple lovers had the best time doing this and really loved how the homemade applesauce tasted!
 The before...
The writing portion of this lesson..."How to Make Applesauce"
and the after, our finished product...Applesauce!
...and then the tasting part of the day!
We waited all day to be able to taste our applesauce while it was cooking, so the build-up was huge!  The result was that they all loved our Applesauce!
These are the faces of some happy applesauce tasters and I am very excited to take them to the Apple Orchard this Thursday!  I hope everyone has had a fun and restful weekend and I can't wait to see everyone bright and early tomorrow morning!

Apples, Apples, Apples

I hope everyone found the permission slip and information page in their student's binders last night for our upcoming field trip next Thursday!  We are beyond excited about our first field trip!  Please get your permission slips turned in ASAP!
In preparation for our big trip next week we have been incorporating apples in too a lot of our lessons this week and we are having a blast!
We dissected an apple and then labeled the different parts of the apple!
After learning the different parts of an apple we read and listened to the book, “Ten Apples up on Top” by Dr. Seuss!  After reading this fun little apple book we made our own Ten Apples on Top pictures that we're going to put out on our bulletin board next week!
How cute are these little apple heads?
At the end of the day today, we taste tested apples then graphed our favorite color apple between red and green.  I will be blogging about this lesson soon as well as our lesson tomorrow where we will make our own Applesauce!  By the time we head out to Sky Top Apple Orchard next week, we will be little experts on everything there is to know about Apples!!!
Remember to keep an eye out for a blog post about our Applesauce adventure as well as our Taste-testing from today!
