Spring in "Blossom"

Today during our science block, we had the most fun enjoying the warm spring weather while observing the beautifully blooming Cherry Blossom trees around our school.
We have recently read a book about Cherry Blossom Trees while studying about the seasons.  We learned all about how there is a big Festival in Washington DC to celebrate and commiserate when Japan gifted the US with the Cherry Blossom Tree in 1912.

First we took our science journals outside with us to make live observations of the beautiful flowering trees.
Everyone loved being able to pick up the beautiful cherry blossoms and get an up close observation to record in their science journals.
It just doesn't get better than being able to hold one in their hands while observing!
My scientist were very hard at work making sure they recorded their observations perfectly.
Getting very up, close, and personal!
After making our observations outside, we went inside where we finger-painted the flowers on to a template of a tree.
Everyone loved adding their blossoms to their trees!

The final product, which I think is amazing!
Keep an eye out for pictures from our Big Egg Hunt tomorrow, we cant wait!

St. Patrick's Day with my Lucky Charms and Welcoming Spring

We had a really exciting and fun day celebrating St. Patrick's Day last week with my little Leprechauns!
My little Lucky Charms had so much fun sorting and graphing the lucky charms cereal!
  More sorting and graphing
We also finger painted our own little pots of gold that turned out looking adorable!
More sorting and graphing our yummy sweet treats!
After all the excitement of St. Patrick's day last week, we were also bless with the first signs of Spring and the beautiful weather that comes along with it!  We took advantage of the nice sunny weather to record our weather charts outside in the sunshine!
Very busy at work recording our weather observations!
We are so excited for sunshine and warm weather!  Don't forget to send in your student's plastic eggs for our Egg Hunt on Friday at 1!  We hope you can join us!

Claxton's Digital Learning Day

Friday was Claxton Elementary's Digital Learning Day and we had so much fun with Mrs. Eggett learning how to create codes to control Dash the Robot!
 Coding to control Dash.
He was cruising around the room after my little programers plugged in their codes.
Then we had the students pretend they were the robots and one of our other friends was the programer.
We had a blast!  Thank you so much Mrs. Eggett for helping us learn about coding and programing.

Worth More Than Gold...

Since tomorrow is Saint Patrick's Day, we have been learning all about Ireland and how their culture celebrates this fun Holiday!  We worked on a lot of comparing and contrasting Non Fiction books about the country of Ireland with fun Fiction books about Leprechauns and Pots of Gold!  Everyone has really enjoyed learning about the Irish culture, including watching what an Irish Jig looks like and listening to traditional Irish Bag Pipe Music!  On Thursday we did a really cute writing activity where the students wrote about someone that is worth more than gold to them!  I loved seeing how thoughtful and caring my students were when trying to decide who they were going to write about!

Tomorrow we are going to do all sorts of fun math activities with Lucky Charms, so keep an eye out of a blog post about that!  Happy Early St. Patrick's Day to everyone!

Dr. Seuss Week Part 2

We really had a blast celebrating Dr. Seuss last week and wrapping up all the fun on Monday!
We loved all the tongue twisting sentences Dr. Seuss came up with when writing his famous books!
We ended last week with one of my personal favorites of Dr. Seuss, "Oh the Places You'll Go!" and then brainstormed places we would like to go, if we could go anywhere in the World!
We came up with some excellent ideas of places we would like to go!  After we brainstormed we did a short writing activity and added it to our class book, "Oh the Places Miss Jones' Class Will Go!"

After a week packed full of Dr. Seuss, this Monday we graphed which of his books was our favorite.  "The Lorax" was the overall favorite, followed by "Horton Hatches the Egg" and "Oh the Places You'll Go."
I hope everyone has a Happy Friday!  We are celebrating National Digital Learning Day so keep an eye out for a blog post about a special project we are going to work on this afternoon with Robots!
