Happy St. Patrick's Day
We were very busy in our classroom today! We learned all about St. Patrick's Day and worked hard on St. Patrick's Day literacy and math activities throughout the whole day.
Pots of Gold under the Rainbow
In math we sorted, counted, and graphed Lucky Charms. The kids did awesome with this and really enjoyed working with the cereal and eating it after!

Literacy Centers
Every morning we do literacy centers in our room while I'm pulling reading groups to my reading table for small group guided reading groups. I wanted to share with y'all some of the activities we do during literacy centers so you can have snapshot of our mornings in room 1412!
We build words using magnetic letters and sounding words out.
We build words using magnetic letters and sounding words out.
We also work on ending sounds by using clothes pins to clip on the letter that matches the ending sound of the picture on the card.
We match simple CVC words to pictures.
We use a pocket chart to help sort pictures into nouns and verbs.
We listen to stories being read to us on leap pads, iPads, and the computer. Www.tumblebooks.com is one of our favorite places to read new books online!

"So that's a wrap!" said the Cat in the Hat!
We have really had so much fun this week working with Dr. Seuss books! Today we made a graph of which Dr. Seuss book was the students' favorite. They had a great time trying to remember the different books and figure out which one was their favorite! They did such an awesome job retelling each other what the different stories were about and helping each other remember parts of the books!
The Lorax ended up winning as their favorite book from the week but it was followed close behind by Horton Hatches the Egg! We also were visited today by a wonderful Storyteller, named Lyn Ford, who is the main speaker this Saturday at the Garner Storytelling Festival!
It was such a special treat for the students to listen to her stories today! It was the perfect way to end such a fun week celebrating Dr. Seuss and all of his storytelling!

Oh, the Places Miss Jones' Class Will Go!
Wednesday
we worked with one of my absolute favorites of all Dr. Seuss' books,
"Oh, The Places You'll Go! The kids loved the bright pictures! My
first year teaching I started a classroom book themed off of this book
called, "Oh, The Places Miss Jones' Class Will Go" and every year each
class adds to the book! The students picked great places they would
like to go, but most of them said they would like to go to Disney
World!!! I would have to agree with them, I would love to go to Disney
too!!
This is the cover of our Class Book!
The Park to play!
Disney World
Ride a motorcycle in a race!!!
Go inside a video game!
Lego Land to build legos!
I loved how creative the students were when thinking of places they want to go! They are really enjoying Dr. Seuss!

Horton Hatches the Egg
Tuesday we read Horton Hatches the Egg as part of our book study on Dr. Seuss Books this week. The kids loved talking about ways they could help others just like the way Horton helped Lazy Mazy hatch an egg!
Today we are reading "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and writing about somewhere we would like to go one day! These always turn out really great so I can't wait to show them to you tomorrow! Have a great Wednesday!
