Gingerbread Houses and Storytelling

We had so much fun making our Gingerbread Houses last Wednesday after our December Holiday Lunch!
Look at all these Happy Faces!
We also made some adorable Snowman Ornaments to take home to our Families!
I hope you enjoy these little handmade with love ornaments for your Christmas trees!
Happy smiles during such a fun month at School!
Showing off her sweet baby during developmental centers!
We were so lucky to have Mrs. Morris' Second Graders come to our classroom to preform "The Grinch"!  I am so proud of some of my past kindergarten students who did an amazing job in the performance for our class!
On Friday we also enjoyed a full day of storytelling by some of the best Storytellers Asheville has to offer (Including our past Claxton Principal, Mrs. Kim Dechant)!
Wishing everyone the Happiest of Holidays from Miss Jones' Kindergarten Class!

Hour of Code Week and Gingerbread Stories

This week is National Hour of Code week in the United States and we are so lucky to have such an amazing Digital Lead Teacher, Mrs. Eggett, to help support us in using coding in our classrooms, even in Kindergarten!
We had two amazing 5th Grade Leaders help guide us through coding and using Dash the Robot!
We also learned how to write our own codes!
We look forward to more lessons with Mrs. Eggett on coding and using Dash the Robot!
This week we started reading all about all kinds of different Gingerbread stories.  So far, we have read, "The Gingerbread Man" "The Gingerbread Baby" "The Gingerbread Cowboy" and "The Ninjabread Man."  We have really LOVED reading each of the Gingerbread stories and can't wait to continue next week with the finale being making Gingerbread Houses after our Holiday meal next Wednesday!
Since we have been working on Opinion Writing, I had my amazing writers write about what type of Gingerbread Cookie they would be if they could be any type of Gingerbread Cookie.  I LOVED their creative ideas and adorable illustrations!
To go along with our adorable writing assignments we also made pretty cute Gingerbread boys and girls to hang with our stoires!  I think they are pretty amazing!
Also, just a reminder TOMORROW is our field trip to Asheville Community Theater to see their performance of "Holidays Around the World"!  We are very excited!

Today we wrapped up all our Halloween fun with a class celebration and some adorable Pete the Cat Masks!
Can't beat a class full of adorable Pete the Cats!
We played some super fun games and had some delicious snacks to help celebrate today in our class!  Such a great turnout and thank you so much to everyone who helped make it possible!
So much fun going on in room 150 today!
On Friday we made these adorable Directed Drawing Candy Corn Drawings!  I am so proud of how amazing my students listened and how great their Candy Corns turned out!  Way to go!!!
I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!

Pumpkins

Last week we started working with pumpkins.  We made observations, labeled the parts of a pumpkin, and learned all about a pumpkin's life cycle.   I am so proud of my amazing observers and how hard they worked learning all about pumpkins over the past week!
Making observations of our classroom pumpkins
We also worked on a cute little craft with our favorite pumpkin poem, "Five Little Pumpkins"
I am so impressed with how much everyone's scissor skills have improved since the beginning of the year!
These adorable little Pumpkins love this poem and making the cute craft that went with it!
We also read a great book called, "Room on the Broom" that we used to help us with learning how to retell stories.  I love how each student really thought hard about who they would take on their Brooms!  The pictures turned out great!
In math we were practicing our 2D shapes using the book, "The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin" to decide and record which shape and color pumpkin we would be if we were a pumpkin in Spookley's patch!
I love the detail everyone put in their pictures, making sure to include all the parts of a pumpkin we have been talking about all week like the stem and vine!
Labeling the parts of a pumpkin together!
I am also extremely impressed with how well everyone did remembering the stages of a pumpkin life cycle after reading a book and watching a clip on how pumpkins grow!
We have been having so much fun with pumpkins, I can't wait to continue all the fun in to this coming week as well!  I hope everyone had a great weekend and I can't wait to see everyone bright and early Monday morning!
